Stop chasing numbers.

This can actually be a big problem for a lot of people during a fat/weight loss journey, constantly chasing those numbers has been know to cause depression and mental health issues in some people.

Over the years I have spoken to people who have been focused on the numbers on the scale and had been getting discouraged when there are not consistent daily or weekly signs of progress being made.

While weighing yourself is the most well-known basis of measurement for fat/weight loss, it’s not the only one, yet some people will still get dishearted if the numbers don't go how they should.

Your weight can be affected by loads of different things. here are a few different things:

👉What you eat the night before: If you eat a fibrous or salty meal the night before your weigh-in, there’s a very good chance that you will see either no movement on the scale or a weight increase.

👉Stress: If you’re more stressed than usual, your body will produce excess levels of the hormone cortisol, which leads to inflammation, and thus, weight gain.

👉The female cycle: If you’re a female and it’s that time of the month, you could also see a weight gain.

👉Over and under-eating: Not sure about how much you have eaten, either you are under-eating or overeating.

I can continue to list many other reasons why your weight can be affected but the may focus for this write up is focusing on chasing numbers, not on the reasons why your numbers don't add up.

Many of my clients come to me weighing themselves every single day at various times of the day. Some days, it’s first thing in the morning. Other days, it’s right before they go to sleep. And other days, it’s smack in the middle of the day.

So the first I do when I have a new client like this is make them stop being a slave to the scales and make sure they do a weigh-in once a week.

It is done using some basic guidelines, like.....It should be done on the same day of each week, at the same time and I even go as far as to find out what my client will wear, some clients do it naked, some in just underwear but clothing also plays a part, this is why I ask them to find a weigh-in outfit and one more thing, where the scales are placed.

Once these steps are set up and the client always feels happier that it is done only once a week and also that it's not the only way to track progress. I not only use scales to track progress, but I also use pictures, measurements and even moods, once I have all this data then we have a check-in with enough data that the client can see, not just a number on a scale.

So if you are one of these people that are chasing those numbers and find it hard to break the habit, message me and let's break the habit together.
