How to set-up your goals.
Let's take this back to basics for you.
Coming up with a list of goals or even just one can feel impossible in its self, so before we go any further let's make sure you are choosing the correct goals.
The way we can do this is by starting off small and finding a goal which is easier to achieve, once you have achieved one you can then let your mind wander, but if you don't want to do that, then I always say "back to the drawing board we go." So get your pen and paper out and write down all the goals you would like to do (everything and anything), from there you will be able to cross off some and the list will become shorter until you are left with your goal list.
👉BREAK DOWN: Once you have decided what you want to achieve and you have your goal list, you will need to break them down into order and priorities, this is done by putting them into lists of short, mid and long term goals.
I recommend to use a time scale for your terms as follows:
➡️Short term: between 4 to 8 weeks
➡️Midterm: between 2/3 months to 6months
➡️Long term: 12 months plus.
(This can change depending on the individual and the type of goal)
👉SMALL STEPS: Once you have put your goals in the right time frame you are ready for the next stage which is to break down the goal into small steps, this will allow you to find out some key points about your goal, like:
➡️What you need to do (exercise, equipment, etc).
➡️Where (if a location is necessary)
➡️When (if it has to be done on a certain date or on certain days)
➡️How can this goal be done (learn how to achieve the goal).
👉ADAPT: The next part is one of the most important ones, as its the one where you will need to adapt your lifestyle so you can achieve your goal, what would you need to change in your current lifestyle to overcome your goal?
➡️TIME: make time in your day to fit in training etc
➡️EXERCISE: You may have to change your whole training routine to achieve this goal, nutrition
➡️NUTRITION: Make sure you are getting enough calories, protein, carbs and fats to fuel you.
Using these simple steps will allow you to SET-UP your goals but also to put them into place.
But......There is something more, a question I get asked a lot, "How do you stay motivated and focused?"
👉Simple answer there will be moments where you won't feel motivated or focused but as long as you still have the WANT to achieve your goal you will find more motivation and the focus will so return.
👉PREPARE: But to prepare yourself for these moments I always tell my clients to find a film clip, a song or speech that gets your hair on the back of your neck to stand on end, we all have a certain song/film clip that makes you feel like you can take on the world, well you will need that, keep it on your phone and when you feel like you are losing motivation or focus play it.
Now for the final part:
👉WORK: Now it's just down to you to put in the hard work, it won't always be easy but it will be worth it, so prepare for those steps, get working and keep that consisting going.
And one other thing, remember you will always have the inner strength to achieve your goals, you just need to dig deep and believe in yourself.
So go set those goals and GO SMASH them!!
